Sure, Florida may have "invented" the phenomenon we now know of as Spring Break, but everyone knows the reputation that Texans have for doing things bigger and better. Just a couple of islands off mainland Texas in the Gulf of Mexico, South Padre Island has more beaches (over 30 miles of shore- and coastline), better values, and wilder contests than our Floridian counterparts have ever dreamed of! Plus, Mexico, where the culture is exotic, the liquor is cheap, and the drinking age is only 18, is only 30 miles away. No wonder that the new rallying cry for Spring Breakers in '99 is "Let's PADRE!)
